Essex Vicinage to Hold Law Day Program

The Essex Vicinage, in partnership with the Essex County Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, will hold its annual Law Day celebration on Friday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m. in courtroom 200 of the Essex County Historic Courthouse, 470 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Newark.

This year’s theme is "Voices of Democracy."

Assignment Judge Sheila Venable and Trial Court Administrator Edward D. Wingren III will present the awards to the student winners of the vicinage’s Law Day art, essay, and poetry contests.

Participants will receive a publication containing students’ outstanding contest submissions and historical information and photographs of the Essex County court complex related to the Law Day theme.

The celebration will immediately follow countywide mock trial events, where Essex County Superior Court judges will visit schools to lead the students through a fictional court case and discuss the Law Day theme. Attorneys and sheriff’s officers will accompany the judges.

For more information, contact Ombudsman Sarah Hatcher at 973-776-9300, ext. 56886.
