Law Day Announcement

The American Bar Association selected “Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility and Collaboration” as the theme for Law Day 2023. Their website invites “all the people of the United States to join us in rebuilding trust in our institutions, respect for one another, and our willingness to collaborate to address the challenges that face our nation.

In recognition of Law Day 2023, the Superior Court of New Jersey, Monmouth Vicinage invited students to participate in our annual Law Day Art, Poetry and Essay contest. The contest allows students to demonstrate their creativity and talents while taking part in a celebration of our nation’s laws. Students at various grade levels were asked to submit artwork, essays and poetry focused on specific topics related to this year’s Law Day theme. Winners of the contest are listed below.

The Monmouth Vicinage, in partnership with the Monmouth Bar Association, will host its annual Law Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 4 at the Monmouth County Courthouse. Municipal Court Judge Susan Schroeder Clark will present a keynote address on the impact of social media in our schools. The program will also feature presentation of awards to the student winners of the Law Day Art, Poetry and Essay contests by Assignment Judge Lisa P. Thornton and Monmouth Bar Association President F. Bradford Batcha, Esq. The ceremony is cosponsored by the Monmouth Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and is made possible with funding from the IOLTA Fund of the Bar of New Jersey. A livestream of the program can be viewed starting at 4 p.m. on May 4 through this link.

Other Monmouth Vicinage Law Day activities include a Student Law Day Symposium for Monmouth County students to be held on Wednesday, May 31 at the Monmouth County courthouse. The program will feature keynote remarks on social media in our community by Municipal Court Judge Susan Schroeder Clark, an interactive mock trial and a session on collaboration among the three branches of government on the issue of social media. The symposium flyer is available here.
