This Notice is being issued to inform the bar of a cybersecurity incident experienced by one of the Judiciary’s vendors. The Judiciary was recently made aware of this incident, and we are sharing this information in the interest of transparency despite there being no risk to the confidential data attorneys have shared with the Judiciary.
In November, OnSolve’s CodeRED emergency notifications system experienced a cybersecurity incident. The Judiciary uses CodeRED solely to send robocalls and mass emails -- such as attorney registration reminders -- to New Jersey attorneys. A separate system is used for weather-related or other court closure notifications.
The Judiciary does not share confidential information about attorneys or court users with CodeRED. However, your business phone number and business email address may have been exposed during OnSolve’s incident. To avoid the potential for anyone to impersonate Judiciary notifications, we are suspending robocall reminders about attorney registration. Please continue to be vigilant with your personal and data security and avoid clicking on links in suspicious emails. If you have any hesitation, call the sender and confirm the legitimacy of the email before clicking on any link or opening any document that you did not anticipate receiving.
The vendor OnSolve is continuing its investigation and keeping the Judiciary and other clients informed. We will share any further information relevant to New Jersey attorneys.
If you have questions, please contact Superior Court Clerk Michelle M. Smith at (609) 421-6100.
