Notice – Hudson County – Filing Requirements for Election-Related Petitions

On September 26, 2025, the New Jersey Supreme Court issued a notice to remind attorneys and pro se litigants of the filing requirements of election-related petitions. The goal is “[t]o ensure that election-related matters are scheduled and handled promptly.” This notice reiterates the Supreme Court’s reminder and provides additional guidance for the bar and unrepresented litigants in the Hudson Vicinage.

Here are the Court’s reminders about the filing requirements:

  • The Verified Petition with Order to Show Cause must be filed in the Law Division-Civil Part of the Superior Court;
  • The accompanying Civil Case Information Statement should select case type 804 (Election Matters);
  • Attorneys and pro se litigants must also provide an electronic copy of all filed papers to Assignment Judge David B. Katz via email at HUD-Elections.mailbox@njcourts.gov. Outside of Hudson County, an electronic copy should be provided to the Assignment Judge in the relevant vicinage, and the attorney or pro se litigant is advised to call the Assignment Judge’s chambers for guidance on providing an electronic copy to the judge.

Contact information for all other Assignment Judges may be found here. For any questions regarding a filing or proceeding, contact the relevant vicinage’s Civil Division, which can be found here, or call the Administrative Office of the Courts Civil Practice Division at 609-815-2900 x54900.
