Morris/Sussex Vicinage to Celebrate National Adoption Day

The Morris/Sussex Vicinage will celebrate National Adoption Day on Friday, Nov. 18 by finalizing adoptions and holding a joint in-person ceremony honoring families who have adopted children during the past year.

The celebration will begin at 9 a.m. in the Historic Courtroom of the Morris County Courthouse, Washington and Court streets, Morristown, where attendees will be treated to light refreshments sponsored by the vicinage’s family division.

At 9:30 a.m., Superior Court Judge Michael Paul Wright, Morris County Surrogate Heather Darling, and adoptive parents and children who finalized adoptions this year will speak. Following the ceremony, Judge Wright will oversee adoptions proceedings.

National Adoption Day is dedicated to celebrating adoptive families and children across the country. This celebration is part of a national effort to raise awareness of the children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families and to encourage others to adopt.
Although adoptions are closed to the public, reporters should contact Assistant Family Division Manager Monica Jennings at 862-397-5700, ext.75180 with requests to interview willing families after their adoption proceedings have concluded.
