Morris/Sussex Vicinage to Hold Recovery Court Graduation Ceremony for Sussex Participants

The Morris/Sussex Vicinage will hold a graduation ceremony for six participants of the recovery court program in Sussex County on Thursday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the Sussex County Historic Courthouse, 3 High St., Newton.

Superior Court Judge Claudia Jones will preside over a ceremony that will acknowledge the participants’ achievements in recovery. James Lee Johansen, with more than 30 years in the recovery field, will give the keynote address.

The Judiciary’s recovery court program operates within the Superior Court to address nonviolent drug-related cases. The rigorous program requires completion of five phases of drug and alcohol treatment that includes intensive probation supervision, frequent drug testing, and virtual court appearances. This level of supervision permits the program to support the recovery process but also allows supervisors to react quickly to impose appropriate therapeutic sanctions or to reinstate criminal proceedings when participants do not comply.

The recovery court program in Sussex County has 31 participants.

For more information about the vicinage’s recovery court program or the commencement ceremony, contact Sussex Recovery Court Coordinator Jennifer Gulden at 862-397-5700, ext. 75319.
