Passaic Vicinage to Host Law Day

The Passaic Vicinage will celebrate Law Day with a series of activities, concluding with a formal program on Friday, May 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the commissioners meeting room on the second floor of the Passaic County Administration Building, 401 Grand St., Paterson.

A panel of judges, staff, and local stakeholders will discuss the theme of this year’s Law Day, “The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One.” Panelists include Passaic County Surrogate Zoila Cassanova; Ruben Fernandez, director of professional development with the nonprofit public defense organization Bronx Defenders; and Abed Awad, Islamic law expert.

The Passaic County Technical Institute “Tech Tones” choir will perform. Students from Rosa Parks High School will provide dance and spoken word selections during the program. Winners of the county’s mock trial competition will be recognized for their achievement.

Middle school and high school students who participated in the countywide poetry, poster, video, and photography contests also will be recognized.

Other activities earlier in the week included school visits, a career day, and job fairs.

The following events will be included in the celebration:

  • Thursday, May 1, Clifton Boys and Girls Club courthouse visit and career exploration day.
  • Tuesday, May 13, mock trial championship, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in ceremonial courtroom 222 of the Passaic County Courthouse, 71 Hamilton St., Paterson.
  • Friday, May 16, Law Day celebration, 9:30 a.m. in the county commissioners room on the second floor of the Passaic County Administration Building.

The Law Day program is sponsored by the Passaic Vicinage Law Day Committee, the Passaic County Bar Association, and the vicinage’s Committee on Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement.
