Superior Court Judge Steven J. Polansky Appointed to Lead Camden Vicinage

Chief Justice Stuart Rabner announced today that Superior Court Judge Steven J. Polansky will lead the Camden Vicinage, effective Sept. 1.

Judge Polansky succeeds Judge Deborah Silverman Katz, who is retiring after more than 17 years on the bench, the last 11 as assignment judge.

“Judge Silverman Katz has led the Camden Vicinage with dedication and integrity for more than a decade, making her the longest serving assignment judge currently in New Jersey,” said Chief Justice Rabner. “We are grateful for her many contributions to the Judiciary.

“Judge Polansky brings exceptional skill and extensive experience to his new role, and I have every confidence that he will build on the vicinage’s tradition of excellence as its next assignment judge.”

In his 13 years on the bench, Judge Polansky has served in all three divisions of the Superior Court, and as presiding judge of the civil division in the Camden Vicinage since 2018.

Judge Polansky began his judicial career in the family division, where he spent three years before being assigned to the criminal division for two years. In 2017 he was assigned to the civil division. He became presiding judge the following year.

“I’m honored to have been given the opportunity by Chief Justice Rabner to lead the Camden Vicinage. I hope to continue the tradition of excellence established by my predecessor and the vicinage judges in providing justice to the citizens of Camden County and treating litigants with honor and respect,” Judge Polansky said.

Judge Polansky’s law career began in private practice, primarily focusing on insurance coverage litigation and personal injury litigation. Before joining the bench, he was a shareholder at the firm Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin in Cherry Hill, where he spent 10 years handling first- and third-party insurance coverage issues and allegations of bad faith against insurers. He also provided training to insurance professionals on avoiding bad faith exposure.

A former Cherry Hill councilman and council president, Judge Polansky also served as a member of the Cherry Hill Board of Education.

After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from Temple University, Judge Polansky earned his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law.
