Passaic Vicinage to Hold Recovery Court Graduation

The Passaic Vicinage will hold a graduation ceremony for 18 participants of its recovery court on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 9:30 a.m. in ceremonial courtroom 222 of the Passaic County Courthouse, 71 Hamilton St., Paterson.

Recovery Court Judge Imre Karaszegi Jr. will preside. Assignment Judge Rudolph A. Filko and Criminal Presiding Judge Sohail Mohammed will address the graduates.

A recovery court participant and a graduate will give the keynote addresses. The ceremony also will include a poetry reading by Talena Queen, Paterson’s poet laureate, and music by the Good News Home of Flemington, a long-term residential treatment program.

The Judiciary’s recovery court program operates within the Superior Court to address non-violent drug related cases. The program requires completion of several phases of intensive drug and alcohol treatment and recovery. Recovery court programs are rigorous, requiring intensive probation supervision, treatment, frequent drug testing, and regular court appearances.

The vicinage’s recovery court program has more than 260 participants.

To learn more about the vicinage’s recovery court program or the commencement ceremony, contact vicinage Recovery Court Coordinator Adrien Byrd at 973-653-2910, ext. 24377.
