Bergen Vicinage to Celebrate America 250 at Law Day Celebration
The Bergen Vicinage will celebrate Law Day on Friday, May 1 with a program honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The event will begin at 3 p.m. with Bergen County Town Crier Tim Yuskaitis followed by a presentation of colors by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Honor Guard Unit. Sheriff Anthony Cureton will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Bergen County Academies’ chamber choir, under the direction of Benjmain Isecke, will sing the national anthem and “God Bless America.”
Superior Court Judge Gregg A. Padovano, chair of the vicinage’s Law Day committee, will give opening remarks. Assignment Judge Carol Novey Catuogno will speak before Presiding Municipal Court Judge Benjamin Choi gives the keynote address.
Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III, Bergen County Commissioner Vice Chair Tracey Zur, and Bergen County Bar Association President James B. Seplowitz also will speak.
The bar association will acknowledge the winner of the county’s mock trial competition for 2026, with presentations by coordinators Nicole Gerritsen McDonough and John W. McDermott recognizing Bergen Catholic High School and presenting the Daniel Rigby Most Valuable Player Award.
Bergen County Clerk John S. Hogan will present awards to the winners of the election calendar poster contest.
Established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958, Law Day was designated as “a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law.”
The event, held in partnership with Bergen County and the bar association, will take place in jury room 210 of the Bergen County Courthouse, 10 Main St., Hackensack.
