Union Vicinage to Celebrate Law Day

The Union Vicinage will host its annual Law Day program with retired Essex Vicinage Assignment Judge Sheila Venable as the keynote speaker on Friday, May 1 at the Union County Courthouse.

The program will discuss this year’s theme, “The Rule of Law and the American Dream.”

Superior Court Judge Dara Govan will lead and close the program, which will feature musical selections performed by the Burnet Middle School All Star Select Chorus.

Participating students from schools in Union County have submitted poster, essay, and poem contest entries as part of their Law Day learning activities. Representatives from the Garden State Bar Association, the Hispanic Bar Association, and the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association will present awards to the winners of the student contests.

Established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958, Law Day was designated as “a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law.”

The event is sponsored by the vicinage’s Committee on Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement in partnership with the Union County Bar Association, the Hispanic Bar Association, the Garden State Bar Association, and the Asian Pacific Bar Association.

The program, which begins at 12:30 p.m., will be held in the courtroom of Assignment Judge Lisa Miralles Walsh on the first floor of the Union County Courthouse, 2 Broad St., Elizabeth.
