DePuy ASR Hip Implant - Case Information

ASRT hip implants are designed, manufactured, marketed and sold by DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. ("DePuy"), an Indiana corporation that is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, a New Jersey corporation. In 2010, data received by DePuy indicated that after five (5) years, thirteen percent (13%) of patients who received the ASRT hip implants needed to have a second hip replacement surgery (revision surgery). On August 26, 2010, DePuy voluntarily recalled the hip implants. This litigation involves claims for damages and injuries allegedly caused by the hip implants. On April 12, 2011, the New Jersey Supreme Court did not designate this litigation as a mass tort, but assigned all pending and future New Jersey state-court litigation involving the hip implants to Bergen County for centralized management by the Judge Rachelle L. Harz.
